About

Some notes about me

Personal Background

Hi! I'm John Stamets, an experienced software engineering leader with expertise in delivering value quickly, building scalable systems, and leading high-performing development teams.

I love coaching and mentoring. I've been able to help them discover their potential, learn to recognize and overcome imposters syndrome, and achieve their goals. I also find reward in overcoming challenges and learning new things, such as AI, AWS, React, and Next.js.

In my free time, I enjoy running sound and lighting for concerts and gaming (less so these days). I'm also a tech-certified scuba diver, as well as a certified Laser Safety Officer (for laser light shows).

About the Site

This site is a continuing evolution of my thoughts, projects, experiments, and demos.

Tech Stack

This site is built in React on Next.js, HeroUI (previously NextUI), and Tailwind CSS. It leverage Zustand for global state management and runs on AWS Amplify, with data services leveraging DynamoDB and DNS services in Cloudflare. Linked projects may run in this same environment, or in a different environment.

Interesting Bits

  • • I leveraged AI substantially to speed up development of the site. It was not "vibe coded" - it still required a lot of hand-holding and oversight. Even the artwork needed help, but it did allow me to move substantially faster.
  • • The site is built with WCAG accessibility in mind, featuring ARIA labels, semantic HTML, and screen reader support.
  • • I really like Paul Klee's artwork (a lot of it anyway).
